Fashion tips for challenging body types

June 11th, 2009, Thursday, 07:06

fashion tips for men1 Fashion tips for challenging body typesUnfortunately, nobody’s perfect. We all find difficulty when it comes to finding clothes that flatter our body type. But if chosen well, the right clothes can disguise our flaws and show off our best features.

Here are some men’s fashion tips for challenging body types that can help you find the right garments.

Tall guys should avoid wearing clothes with vertical stripes including pinstripes, as they tend to emphasize height. Instead, choose horizontal stripes and windowpane plaids, as they are most flattering.

For your body type, wearing fabrics that cling is a bad idea, but wearing baggy clothes also draws attention to your physique. Wearing shirts that are slightly fitted with spread colors and trousers that are straight in the leg, but not tapered in any way work best for your body type.

Also, sweaters with a closer fit to the body, but not fitted are more flattering. Avoid wearing suits with three buttons as they tend to add length to your body, instead choose one and two-button suits.

If you are vertically challenged, stay away from wearing cuffed trousers, long suit jackets, and loud patterns in order not to draw attention to your smaller stature. Choose pinstripes and other stripes (but not too bold) and dark colors, as these will visually lengthen your body.

Wear two and three buttoned suits with long lapels, as they will give you a flattering, longer silhouette. To give the illusion of being taller, leave the top button on two and three button suits undone.

When it comes to ties, avoid Windsor and double Windsor knots, and go for small knots.

Heavyset men should not wear bold patterns of any sort. Choose pinstripes and solid colors, especially dark ones for a flattering look.

When it comes to suits, avoid bulky fabrics such as tweeds, and choose softer wools such as gabardines. Wear suits with peaked lapels as they draw the attention upwards. Shirts with pointed collars are also more flattering.

Of course there are exceptions to rules, but keep the above listed tips in mind when putting a wardrobe or an outfit together for flattering looks.

Fashion rules for men

June 9th, 2009, Tuesday, 07:06

fashion rules for men Fashion rules for men Take a look at 6 important fashion rules that men should follow:

1. Always match your belt with your shoes. It’s best to stay with traditional colors like black, dark brown or a rich tan. If you wear jeans with sneakers, you should choose a belt made of fabric or something equally as casual, and avoid dress belts with jeans and sneakers.

2. Matching ties and shirts. You don’t have to match a solid-colored shirt with a tie of the same color. Try mixing things up a little and experiment with colors. You can’t go wrong with diagonal stripes, modern polka-dots, plaids and subtle patterns. Make sure your tie compliments your shirt, suit, sweater or other items you’ll be wearing it with.

3. Pleats vs. flat-front. Flat-front trousers look better than pleated pants most of the time, and can be worn by most men. Pleats make you look slimmer.

4. Socks. Try to match your socks with your pants and shoes. Although it should be obvious, white socks should be reserved for the gym.

5. Watches are a great and the most important accessory for a man. You should invest in one good watch that suits your lifestyle and taste. If you own more than one watch, wear the appropriate one for your outfit: black band with black shoes and belt; brown band with brown shoes and belt; and silver band for either.

6. Eyeglasses can really express yourself and can enhance your overall look. Look for a pair of glasses that not only compliments your face shape and features, but also expresses your personality.
